BREAKING NEWS: Gahmen Retreats From Ministerial Pay Rise

THIS JUST IN: Early Sunday morning, TalkingCock.com received an urgent press communiqué from the Gahmen, stating that it is abandoning its move to raise ministerial salaries.
According to the communiqué, the Gahmen has taken the views of the public under serious consideration, and has been persuaded that the raising of ministerial salaries is highly insensitive and inappropriate, especially when Singapore is experiencing both a dual economy and a growing income gap, and also facing an uncertain global economic forecast.
“We have bowed to the will of the people,” said Gahmen press spokesman Lirpa Loof. “We have also listened to public opinion on a wide range of other issues, and have modified our policies accordingly.”
Mr. Loof said that in the months to come, Singaporeans will see a battery of policy changes, including but not limited to:
- the repeal of the existing illegal assembly laws
- the amendment of the constitution to give greater protection to freedom of expression and other civil liberties
- the strengthening of healthcare provisions, especially for the needy
- making the death penalty for drug possession a discretionary rather than a mandatory sentence
- a re-examination of employment opportunities and the importation of foreigners
- the complete restructuring of the education system such that social justice, equity and civic participation are given primacy over the mindless acquisition of and competition for grades and credentials
- the granting of equal citizenship rights to homosexual citizens
- the liberalization of the press and media
- the decoupling of the labour movement from the ruling party
- the curtailment of the scope of censorship of the arts
- the creation of fairer competition and antitrust laws
- the passing of a Freedom of Information Act
- the abolition of the GRC electoral system
- the overhaul of the Internal Security Act
- the creation of a Truth and Reconciliation Committee to re-examine errors in past policies and initiatives
- mandatory retirement for certain senior politicians
“There’s so much more we’ll be doing to right the many injustices and inequities that have been built up over the years,” said Mr. Loof. “Singaporeans will remember this date as when the country was ushered into a bold, new era.”
